John Batdorf and Friends

Featuring John Batdorf, James Lee Stanley,

Bill Batstone, Lilly Wilson

and Andrew Jackson

John Batdorf: John Batdorf's uniquely passionate vocals and guitar playing landed him his first major record deal back in the 70's with Atlantic Records, and he's continued to develop and grow as an artist to this day. As the song writing and lead vocal half of Batdorf and Rodney, John began honing his craft and developing his own style back in the early 70's. After the breakup with Rodney, John did an album with a group called Silver and toured the country promoting their album at venues with the likes of America, Doobie Brothers, Poco and Hall and Oats. Fans devoted to his sound recognized John's voice on several radio and television projects in the 80's when he worked as a top LA studio session singer. When he wasn't touring with bands, or producing music for a variety of clients, he never stopped writing songs. In the early 90's he partnered with fellow songwriter Michael McLean and released a handful of albums that captured a personal resonance John found with his universal songs of hope and inspiration. It's as if with each stage in his artistic journey, he developed a greater understanding of the power music to impact our daily lives. Never one to stagnate creatively, John expanded his artistic palette from acoustic driven pop/rock to story driven melodies. From 1996 to 2002 he worked as a TV composer for the hit series "Touched by an Angel" and "Promised Land". Now into the second half of the new millennium, John has recorded a new CD with James Lee Stanley "All Wood And Stones" (a highly original take on early Rolling Stones songs, done acoustically with tight harmonies) along with his first solo EP, "Side One." His latest solo CD,"Home Again" is comprised of seven new originals and three songs for the Batdorf and Rodney days. This CD is an acoustic guitar and vocal enthusiasts dream come true! When you listen to John sing songs about things that really matter to him, and you'll understand why they mean so much to his fans that have spanned three decades.

John will be joined by the following fantastic artists.

James Lee Stanley

James Lee Stanley:

It is only a long lived singer-songwriter career that lets JAMES LEE STANLEY unite the unpredictable creativity and the eclectic elements that make up his world. His remarkable ability as a vocalist and composer allow him to create songs, each recorded with a finely crafted backing that sonically enhance the impulse behind the lyric. But a whole new dimension is added when James Lee performs live. These incredible songs, coupled with his outragously hilarious repartee, make for an evening of hilarity and tenderness. He is one of the few all time greats and undisputed geniuses among singer-songwriters. Fi Magazine listed his FREELANCE HUMAN BEING as one of the finest recordings of 1998 and one of the Top 200 Recordings of all time - FI Magazine March 1999.

JAMES LEE STANLEY, began recording at 14 for LeGrand Records. He majored in music at Cal State University. With twenty albums to his credit, he has produced an extraordinary body of work. And he's been quite the road dog, performing three hundred dates a year with such diverse acts as BONNIE RAITT, ROBIN WILLIAMS, CHICK COREA & RETURN TO FOREVER and BILL COSBY.

Lily Wilson

Lily Wilson

Lily Wilson grew up on a ranch in an isolated valley near Napa, California, where her family grows wine grapes. Her nearest neighbor was three miles away, and she spent most of her time exploring the countryside, listening to music and teaching herself to sing and play. She found inspiration in the records her parents played by artists like Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, The Beatles, and Janis Joplin.
Her career in music started when Lily moved to Spain at nineteen. While there she was drawn to the Flamenco music being played in the gypsy caves above the city, and also to the Moroccan music she heard in her neighborhood in Granada. She played and sang solo and in bands, on street corners, tea shops, and bars all over Andalusia.
Her first CD, Winter Song, was recorded in Hawaii, where she spent a year writing and recording with White Termite Records, an independent label on Maui. During this time, she collaborated with Adam Seymour, guitarist for The Pretenders, and with Susie Hug, lead-singer of the Katydids, who both helped produce and played on the record.
She then moved to Los Angeles, where she wrote and recorded her second, self-titled C.D. with producer/ slack-key guitarist, Jim West (Westernmost Music.)
Lily’s recent solo travels through Chile and Argentina for three months with a backpacking guitar and lots of journals provided the inspiration for the 12 new songs (two in Spanish) which make up her third CD, “Stargazer,” recorded in L.A. with producer/ Melissa Etheridge bassist, Mark Browne.
Now based in Los Angeles, Lily performs locally and all over the country; and continues to write and record with Mark Browne. She has also been lending her voice to other artisits’ projects, and has sung with Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss, Kenny Loggins, Patty Griffin, and Melissa Etheridge. Listen for her on Melissa Etheridge's new release, "The Awakening." In November of 2007, Lily won the L.A. Music Awards "Female Vocal of the Year" in the AC category for her new song, "A Little Life."

Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson

" I approach each song, like the sculptor chips away at a piece of marble...hoping to leave behind, an immortal piece for the world to Cherish."I started teaching myself how to play the guitar at a very young age. Ive never had a lesson. The guitar has been my passion and obsession for over 30 years. I have also thought of myself as an 'explorer", therefore, Ive never been able to take to one genre of music or style. In doing this, Ive learned to play many styles which include influences from Latin/Spanish, Flamenco, Americana, Celtic Classical to folk and Jazz. Some of my pieces are a fusion of many styles. I took the stage just 4years ago, and since then, Ive had the opportunity to share it with world-class guitarist's Alex de Grassi, Muriel Anderson, Vickie Genfan, Dorian Michael, Thomas Leeb, Steve Lawson, Adam Miller, Goh Kurosawa, Bruce Goldish, Pat Milliken, George Quirin, and others. Among, being a musician, I also produce and promote fingerstyle guitar concerts, "Santa Barbara Acoustic Concert Series', local singer song writer concerts, "Circle of Friends", and produce the music for a fund raising concert for the Environmental Defense Center, and for the last 7 years for the Firestone Mountain Bike Series. I hope that this journey of exploring the boundaries of acoustic guitar expression never ends for me, as this is my life!

Happy New Year Message from John Batdorf

What's New...

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008 7:03 PM PST

2008

Happy New Year everyone. This past year has been very fulfilling and my goal is to make 2008 even better! Many thanks to everyone for fantastic support. It was so nice to meet many of you this year and even greater to perform at house concerts which were hosted by Paul Mannes in Arlington, Chris Abood in Cleveland, Walt Fogle in Seattle, Bev and Greg in Campbell, Doug West on Maui, Marty DeJarnette in Charlotte, Pierre Marchal in Penryn, and Russ and Julie in Oak Park. The Far West conference was held near Portland this year and Mark Rodney joined up with me to perform many showcases! It was Mark's first conference and he had a blast. I want to also thank Melanie, Jeanette Lundgren, Charlette Fugetta, Jackie Batdorf, Mike Hays and Rich Curiel, Dave Schoolman, Steve Smith, Bob Kivi, Bill Batstone, Carey Driscoll, Peter Holmstedt and others who have unselfishly donated their time to help me achieve my goals. This year, my solo CD "Home Again" will be re-released on a new label, Novatunes. Their roster has a talented group of artists including Jackson Browne, Graham Nash to name a few. Novatunes call themselves "the record company for the 21st century", and with their passion and hard work, I believe it can be possible. I am thrilled to be part of Novatunes. The International Folk Alliance Conference will be in Memphis, Feb. 20th to the 24th. I have been selected to perform my first showcase and I am very happy about that. I will also be performing several guerilla showcases as a solo and with James Lee Stanley. Mark Rodney and myself recorded a live show at XM Radio in November which will be released as a CD in the spring. The CD also will include two brand new songs that will be recorded in the studio. We plan to support the new CD and I will continue to support "Home Again" and "All Wood And Stones". I hope to see you out there at a show some time this year.
John Batdorf

PS - if anyone out there is interested in hosting a house concert for John, please let us know by return. We would be happy to provide you with informative links and answer any questions you may have, as well as Johns' tentative tour plans for 2008. All the house concerts hosted thus far by Johns' fans have been successful and fun for all -- and opened a new world of music for friends of the host(s)!
